U2, Coldplay Dominate Pollstar Global Concert Chart

This week’s Top 5 tours on the Pollstar Global Concert Pulse was a horserace between U2 and Coldplay (No. 1 and No. 2, respectively,) with average grosses at more than $7 million for each – $7,229,076 For U2 and $7,003,572 for Coldplay.

However, Guns N’ Roses (No. 3) still have 24 dates on the books for 2017 and are already No. 1 on Pollstar’s 3Q Top 100 Tours based on worldwide ticket sales.

Rounding out the Top 5 this week are Celine Dion and Lady Gaga (Nos. 4-5). The average ticket price for the Top 5 is $112.76, with Celine Dion’s ticket price the highest at an average of $141.10.

Mammoth shows on U2’s “Joshua Tree 2017” tour solidified the band’s top spot for the week, with recent box office reports including

U2 still has seven stadium shows coming up in South America, but Guns N’ Roses still have 24 arena dates taking Axl, Slash and Duff to the end of 2017. The “Not in This Lifetime Tour” is now at least two full years of both Guns and Roses, and this isn’t counting the “Axl/DC” tour when Axl Rose stepped in for AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson on their tour. 

Coldplay (No. 2) is still king of the sheer crowd size, with average tickets sold approaching 80,000. However, with average ticket prices more than $20 less than U2 ($89.27 vs. $113.23), Coldplay is still averaging about $225,000 less per show than U2.

The Chris Martin-fronted band’s Head Full of Dreams Tour wrapped its U.S. tour leg in San Diego, at Qualcomm Stadium Oct. 8. Also similarly to U2, Coldplay has five dates remaining on its tour this year, also in South America.
