Booty Call

Posted on Thursday July 19, 2001 at 02:46 AM Add |

Two hip-hop artists that spawned some of today's karaoke favorites are back on the road. Tone-Loc and Sir Mix-A-Lot have separate tours on the way, but they'll hook up for two shows in Oregon, September 2 and 3.

Sir Mix-A-Lot has dates running August 18 through October 14. Tone-Loc's venture begins a few weeks earlier on July 26, and ends on Halloween. Both artists are playing mostly clubs and other dance-friendly venues.

From the provocative Grammy-winning hit "Baby Got Back," to the flashy jewelry and furs, nothing says early ‘90s hip-hop quite like Sir Mix-A-Lot. His 1991 release Mack Daddy, spawned the notorious booty song and propelled him to fame. An aspiring music mogul, Mix-A-Lot hasn't eclipsed the success of his signature hit, even though his sound and style had obvious far-reaching influences.

Tone-Loc has fared a bit better on the charts. His 1989 cover of Van Halen's "Jamie's Cryin" was a monster hit, as was the subsequent "Funky Cold Medina." After his music career cooled, Tone-Loc turned to acting, starring in the TV comedy "ROC," and films including "Possee" and "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective."
