Live 8 On The Air

12:52 AM, Friday 7/1/05 Add |   |

Understandably, it's going to be tough to broadcast all 10 of the Live 8 concerts taking place across the globe on Saturday. Unlike 1985's Live Aid - which was monumental in "only" having two simultaneous concerts - the upcoming event will feature hundreds of artists from Philadelphia to Tokyo to Johannesburg to Moscow's Red Square.

But VH1 and MTV are going to do their best cover everything (or, at least Pink Floyd in London, for crying out loud) starting 12 p.m. EST and running until 8 p.m. CMT and VH1 Classic expect to broadcast highlights July 3.

MtvU.com and AOL Music both plan to provide Internet simulcasts.

ABC is the only major televison network broadcasting the event. It will run a two-hour highlight special at 8 p.m. EST.

XM Radio is going to cover at least six of the concerts. If you'd like to hear Maroon 5, Dave Matthews Band, Keith Urban, Jay-Z, or Destiny's Child, for instance, check out XM Channel 42, which will broadcast the Philly event.

Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, U2,Coldplay, Keane and others will have their London show broadcast on Channels 41 and 201. Concerts from Berlin, Rome, Paris, Edinburgh, Toronto and Gleneagles, Scotland, are also included.

Artist line-ups and further info are available at www.live8live.com.

The concerts are an effort to call attention to third world debt as leaders from leading countries meet to discuss economic matters at the G8 conference.
