Musica Fresca

05:03 AM, Saturday 8/19/06 Add |   |

A trio of modern Latin music innovators will travel the U.S. this year on the Musica Fresca Tour.

The 13-city tour will be co-headlined by Puerto Rican reggaeton star Voltio, NYC latin funk band Yerba Buena, and Akwid, a duo of brothers who blend hip-hop with traditional Mexican influences.

Latin rock outfit Radio Mundial will also appear on the trek, along with a local Battle of the Bands presented by Yahoo! Telemundo in each city.

The tour aims to showcase bands "on the leading edge of modern Latin music fusion," according to a press release.

It will launch September 16, in the midst of Hispanic History Month, at Miami's La Covacha. The current itinerary runs out to the West Coast and back to New York, wrapping October 10 in Falls Church, Va.

The outing is being produced by music industry veterans Gary Kurfirst and Chris Blackwell.
