A Kinder, Gentler Goldfrapp

04:23 AM, Wednesday 1/30/08 Add |   |

U.K. duo Goldfrapp has moved in a decidedly different direction for its forthcoming release, Seventh Tree.

Singer Alison Goldfrapp and multi-instrumentalist Will Gregory were reportedly inspired by some acoustic radio sessions they did last year to go for a softer, more ambient sound, even incorporating acoustic guitars into the mix.

The pair will introduce fans to the new sound when they hit the road in March for a U.K. tour that kicks off March 4 at Union Chapel in London.

The band has also been tapped to make an appearance April 18 at the Ether Festival at London's Royal Festival Hall.

Other acts on the eclectic roster include Current 93 with Marc Almond, Om and Baby Dee, Harmonia (featuring members of Kraftwerk and Neu! and Cluster) and Pere Ubu.

The festival climaxes with the world premiere of a collaboration between composer Thomas Ades and video artist Tal Rosner, which has been specially commissioned for the London Sinfonietta, one of Southbank Centre's resident orchestras.

Additional U.K. stops on Goldfrapp's itinerary include De Le Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea (June 21), The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester (June 23), Royal Albert Hall in London (June 25) and The Sage in Gateshead (July 1).

Additional dates are expected.

Tickets for most shows are available at GigsAndTours.com.

Seventh Tree, which hits the streets February 25 in the U.K. and February 26 in the U.S., is Goldfrapp's fourth album of original material.

Here's the video for the first single, "A&E," which will be available as a digital download February 1, with a wide range of formats out February 11, including a limited edition 7" picture disc, CD, Maxi CD and an exclusive iTunes remix.
