Wild In The Country Festival Canceled

11:07 AM, Thursday 7/3/08 Add |   |

U.K. music fest Wild In The Country has been canceled two days before is was scheduled to take place.

The July 5 event at Knebworth Park in Hertfordshire originally featured headliner Björk, but the singer pulled out of the show June 27 citing "production requirements."

Other artists on the DJ and dance heavy lineup included Foals, Sasha, Danny Tenaglia, Richie Hawtin, Hercules and Love Affair and The Presets, along with Battles and Soulwax, who were also rumored to have canceled following Björk's departure from the roster.

Festival organizer Stately Events Ltd. blamed the cancellation on low ticket sales and "a key investor withdrawing at the last minute, leaving the event in an unsustainable position."

"This is a very sad conclusion to our passionate efforts to develop an interesting and credible addition to the U.K. festival market. Unfortunately, Wild in the Country has become the latest in a series of festivals that have suffered from a unique and well-documented set of market forces this summer.

"We did everything possible to make the event happen and would like to apologise to all those who have purchased tickets, and for the inconvenience this cancellation may have caused."

Organizers have promised to make every effort to refund tickets.
