The Closing Bell

05:02 PM, Tuesday 8/19/08 Add |   |

We draw the curtain on a Tuesday filled with wondrous and mind-boggling information. Like new dates for Dave Attell, MSTRKRFT, SONiA and disappear fear and The Wiggles, and links to items about John Lennon's killer, artists re-recording their old tunes, Pat Green's beer mishap, James Hetfield's fence, speculation on whether 27 is a jinxed age and all you need to know about Gnarls Barkley. That should be more than enough to impress the gang at the ol' water cooler tomorrow.

Overnight Sensation …

Riches beyond belief are hidden in the following two items scheduled to post within the next 16 hours. Well, maybe not riches beyond belief, but chances are you'll find something worth treasuring for years and years to come. Or until you turn on the TV. Whichever comes first.

Touring With A Bullet - U.K. metalcore quartet Bullet for My Valentine has unveiled a fall and winter schedule that will see the band on the road through mid-December.

The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Café - Ingrid Michaelson, Rachael Yamagata, Thao Nguyen, Priscilla Ahn and 14 other female singer/songwriters turn the successful Hotel Café tour into a girl thang.

Link-O-Rama …

Mark David Chapman tells his parole board he's ashamed and sorry for killing John Lennon - Associated Press

What do Loudon Wainwright III, Tony Joe White and Little Feat have in common? They've all released new recordings of their old songs - Los Angeles Times (registration may be required)

What do you bet Pat Green will think twice before he ever asks for someone in the audience to toss him a beer? - Jackson Citizen-Patriot

Is 27 a jinxed age? After all, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Kurt Cobain and Janis Joplin all died when they reached 27. Cue the spooky music … - The Times Online U.K.

When it comes to fences, Metallica's James Hetfield likes 'em long … and barbed - San Francisco Chronicle

Getting up-to-speed on Gnarls Barkley - Minneapolis City Pages

Dates, Dates & More Dates …

Funny guy Dave Attell lines up dates in Texas, Arizona and New York. In Texas look for him at places like Empire Theatre in San Antonio on October 9, House Of Blues in Houston on October 10, Paramount Theatre in Austin on October 11 and House Of Blues in Dallas on October 12. Tucson is the city on October 17 with Rialto Theatre as the venue and on December 26 Mr. Attell kicks off a multi-night stand at Carolines On Broadway in New York City.

They're Canadian, they're electronic, they're MSTRKRFT and they're going to plaster their upper-case name on venue marquees all over the U.S. during September and October. Dates include Los Angeles at Music Box @ Fonda on September 26, Minneapolis at First Avenue on October 6, Metro / Smart Bar in Chi-town on October 7 and New York at Webster Hall on October 10.

Speaking of those upper case names, folksters SONiA and disappear fear update today with new September and October gigs. Stops include Baltimore on September 5 at The 8X10, Bloomington, Illinois at the Blue Moon Coffeehouse on September 20, Madison, Wisconsin on September 21 at Willy Street Festival and Philly on October 17 at Broad Street Ministry.

And The Wiggles add dates in Canada and the U.S. as well as their native Australia. Canada stops include Toronto on October 24, Ottawa on October 26, London on October 27 and Kingston on October 28. New U.S. listings include November 6 in Hampton, Virginia, November 15 in Columbia, South Carolina, November 19 in Gainesville, Florida and November 23 in Miami. Aussie dates include December 3 & 4 in Perth, December 9 in Canberra, December 13 & 14 in Melbourne and December 20 - 22 in Darling Harbor.

During the day we also updated the schedules for Dark Star Orchestra, Catie Curtis, The Expendables, Janis Ian, The Sadies, The Good Brothers, BoDeans, Buddy Guy, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Josh Gracin, Filter, Martha Wainwright, Michael Buble, Slightly Stoopid, Webb Wilder, plus more artists and bands than we can possibly mention in this space because, well, it's quittin' time and we can hear those $25 beers down at the One-Eyed Ticket Scalper Bar & Grill calling our name.

And that wraps up our Tuesday adventure stalking wild and dangerous tour dates. Thank you for relying on us for your concert data needs and we hope you'll continue to rely on our vast database of concert dates to guide you through life, the universe and everything. G'night.
