Lila Downs Shakes Things Up

04:07 AM, Thursday 9/11/08 Add |   |

Mexican vocalist Lila Downs is preparing to bring her unique take on the rich culture of her native country to the States with a month long journey that will take her to theatres from coast to coast.

Downs, accompanied by her seven-piece band La Misteriosa, launches her trek September 13 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Other stops on the schedule include Town Hall in New York City (September 15), the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, N.M. (September 19), KCRW's World Festival (with Nortec Collective, Ozomatli and Michael Franti & Spearhead) at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles (September 21), Wonder Ballroom in Portland, Ore. (September 24), the San Jose International Mariachi Festival in California (September 27) and Harris Theatre in Chicago (September 30).

Tickets for some shows are available at Ticketmaster.com.

Downs is out in support of her most recent release, Shake Away, which was released earlier this month.

The diverse album was recorded in New York City and Mexico City and features a number of guests, including legendary Argentinean singer Mercedes Sosa on a duet of her song "Tierra de Luz," Café Tacuba's Ruben Albarran on "Perro Negro" and label mate Raul Midon on a cover of "Black Magic Woman" that switches between Spanish and English.
