The Closing Bell - 10/08

05:05 PM, Wednesday 10/8/08 Add |   |

And now we come to that time in our show where we must thank all of our guests and bid our audience good night.

Of course we wouldn't leave you with nothing to tide you over until we hit the air again tomorrow morning, so we present for your edification (sorry, we've been reading the dictionary. Slow day.) news items about Britney Spears latest legal escapade, DJ AM's buds banding together, Foo Fighters telling a certain presidential hopeful to knock it off, a musical collaboration we're going to have to hear to believe and a few truly bizarre moments in television history.

But we can't forget to pay tribute to the work done by the dedicated folks in the tour itinerary department of our building. They've been hard at work this afternoon inputting new dates for The Wiggles, Plain White T's, King's X and Carlene Carter among others.

Overnight Sensation …

It's day three of the Pollstar hostage crisis and we've outdone ourselves thinking of new ways to inspire our captive writer.

Today's motivation involves listening to certain public officials who we won't name (but their initials are G.W.B. and S.P.) mispronounce the word "nuclear" on a tape loop at high volume.

It's worked so well she came up with these excellent stories for tomorrow morning.

Ingrid Michaelson's Gonna Be Ok - The indie-pop singer is headed out on the Hotel Café Tour and a run of headlining dates.

Sounds Like Rock and Roll - Singer/songwriter Eric Hutchinson will hit the road later this month for solo shows and support gigs for Jack's Mannequin.

Link-O-Rama …

Britney Spears is headed to court next week and for once it's got nothing to do with her kids - Los Angeles Times

DJ AM's friends Mark Ronson, Mix Master Mike and others are throwing him a "Welcome Home" benefit party - MTV.com

Poor John McCain. It seems nobody likes having their music associated with him. Foo Fighters are the latest to issue a C&D - Associated Press via Yahoo! News

Marilyn Manson calls Ne-Yo on a boast. We can't wait to hear the result - E! Online

Boy George on "The A Team"? It happened. A list of the most surreal TV series cameos -

Dates, Dates & More Dates …

Due to overwhelming demand by squirming toddlers across the nation, The Wiggles have added more shows to get parents off the hook. New stops include Albany, N.Y.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Trenton, N.J.; Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; and Gainsville, Fla.

Plain White T's are filling up the rest of their year with headlining dates. Just added cities include Little Rock, Ark; Columbus, Ohio; Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.

Rockers King's X will hit the road in December, with Milwaukee, Chicago, Nashville, Dallas and Houston among the cities in their path.

Country royalty Carlene Carter continues to fill out her schedule with just added shows in Memphis, Tenn.; Clayton, N.Y.; Sellersville, Pa.; and New York City.

During the day we also updated schedules for David Lindley, Allen Toussaint, Jars of Clay, Loudon Wainwright III, Duffy, Ghostland Observatory, Lou Christie, Over the Rhine and many, many more.

We have to run now, but be sure to join us to tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel for another exciting episode of "Adventures in the Concert Industry!"
