Midday Update - 10/09

12:15 PM, Thursday 10/9/08 Add |   |

Okay, that's the bell for lunch, but we have some things for you to study while you ruin your diet at your favorite fast food joint.

We've cooked up some nourishing tidbits about Yoko Ono, the man who helped The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, The Kinks, Michael Jackson and many others sell millions of albums, The E Street Band's guitarist, Rufus' opera, Tegan and Sara and music icon Bryan Ferry.

Plus to whet your appetite for concert-going, we have new dates for B.B. King, Disturbed, Noah & The Whale and Willie Nelson.

Link-O-Rama …

Yoko Ono and EMI give peace a chance - New York Times

Your band just finished recording it's magnum opus. What's next? Somebody has to get people to buy it - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The E Street Band's Nils Lofgren dishes about The Boss, Neil Young and more - Washington Post

Rufus Wainwright turns his penchant for dramatic music into an opera called - what else? - "Prima Donna" - The Guardian

Tegan and Sara talk about being siblings and getting along in a band together. Noel and Liam, you listening? - Denver Post

Watch as Bryan Ferry tells the audience at the 2008 BMI London Awards how he feels about writing songs. As he picks up the Icon Award for songwriting.

Dates, Dates & More Dates …

We're headed into the home stretch for the year and everyone's loading up their touring calendars as best they can.

Blues legend B.B. King's date book is filling in nicely, with just added stops in Albuquerque, N.M.; Milwaukee; Norman, Okla.; Atlanta, Hagerstown, Md.; and Fresno, Calif., among others.

Disturbed will return from storming Europe next month and head right out to rock the U.S. and Canada, playing in cities like Rochester, Minn; Bismarck, N.D.; Spokane, Wash.; Vancouver and Grand Forks, N.D.

U.K. folk rockers Noah & The Whale are gearing up for a December invasion of North America, with shows scheduled in Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; New York City; Toronto; Chicago; Seattle; San Francisco and more.

The red-headed stranger just pumped up the list of cities he'll be visiting in his bio-diesel tour bus. Willie Nelson fans in places like South Padre Island, Texas; Tulsa, Okla.; Kalamazoo, Mich; Dubuque, Iowa; and Evansville, Ind., get ready.

Okay everyone, take 30 or 45 or however many you can get away with. But be sure to bone up on everything we just covered. There might be a pop quiz coming up in The Closing Bell at 5pm PST.
