M83's Galactic Trek

04:11 AM, Tuesday 10/28/08 Add |   |

Fans of electronic shoegazing rock a la The Psychedelic Furs or My Bloody Valentine should cast an ear in the direction of Anthony Gonzalez, aka M83, when he hits the shores of the U.S. and Canada next month.

The French group, only recently a solo act, is gearing up for a North American sojourn in support of latest release Saturdays = Youth that kicks off November 13 at Black Cat in Washington, D.C. and wraps November 19 at Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles.

Other lucky destinations include Webster Hall in New York City (November 14), Pearl Street in Northampton, Mass. (November 16), Cabaret Juste Pour Rire in Montreal (November 19), Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis (November 22), Richard's On Richards Cabaret in Vancouver (November 26) and The Fillmore in San Francisco (November 28).

Brooklyn's School of Seven Bells will handle opening duties for the trek.

Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.

M83 has been generating buzz on this side of the Atlantic since a successful early-summer U.S. tour, followed by an appearance at the Download Festival near San Francisco.

Youth, released last spring, features production work by Ken Thomas (Sigur Rós, The Sugarcubes, Boys in a Band, Cocteau Twins, Suede), Ewan Pearson (Tracey Thorn, The Rapture, Ladytron) and Morgan Kibby (The Romanovs, Morgan and the Hidden Hands) on tracks like "Coleurs," "Kim & Jesse" and "Graveyard Girl."

Here's the clip for the deliciously atmospheric "Graveyard Girl," which would be as equally at home in a John Hughes movie as it would playing in the background of a scene from "Gossip Girl."
