Steve Winwood Winter Dates

11:01 AM, Tuesday 12/2/08 Add |   |

Steve Winwood is ringing in 2009 with a round of East Coast concerts in January.

This will be the first U.S. headline tour since 2007 for the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, who was recently named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” During the summer, Winwood toured the states with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.

The upcoming tour kicks off with two dates at the United Palace in New York Jan. 15-16. Then Winwood heads to MGM Grand Theater in Mashantucket, Conn., (Jan. 17), Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore (Jan. 19) and Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, N.J. (Jan. 20).

Next are stops at the American Music Theatre in Lancaster, Pa., (Jan. 22), Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls, N.Y., (Jan. 23) and Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston, N.Y., (Jan. 24).

Winwood will be sure to play tunes from his recent album, Nine Lives, which was released at the end of April. The album marked the singer’s highest chart debut and best first week’s sales of the SoundScan era.

The album’s first single, “Dirty City,” includes guitar work from Eric Clapton, Windwood’s former bandmate in Blind Faith.

Following Winwood and Clapton’s onstage collaboration at the Chicago Crossroads Guitar Festival in July 2007, the duo did three shows together at New York’s Madison Square Garden in February. All three shows sold out in minutes.
