Rose Bowl Rock

04:50 AM, Wednesday 12/31/08 3 |   |

The USC Trojan Marching Band is gearing up to rock the Rose Bowl halftime show in Pasdena, Calif., with a performance of Avenged Sevenfold’s “Almost Easy” Jan. 1.

The band gained attention earlier this year when it performed the song during a USC vs. Stanford football game and bootleg videos of the performance made it on the Internet.

The halftime show broadcast is expected to start at approximately 3:40 p.m. PST on New Year’s day.

As much as I love marching bands, I'm not exactly sure why this is news. There are dozens of other big college marching bands playing tons of other popular rock tunes this weekend alone, and throughout football season.  Why is USC playing Avenged Sevenfold this week a headline and MSU playing Foo Fighters isn't?

The reason why it's so much news, is because Avenged Sevenfold is from Southern Cali. No one ever really thought about them playing halftime shows, until now.

Huh? Half of the rock that is played on the radio is by artists from southern california. And even if it wasn't, it shouldn't make a difference. If the Northwestern marching band played a song by Fallout Boy who are from down the street it would not be on Pollstar...
