Broadway producer James L. Nederlander says he has acquired rights for a stage musical of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video.
Considering the Thriller dance has seen a resurgence so popular it has made its way into Philippine prisons and wedding dances, this may not be a bad idea.
“The Nederlanders and Michael Jackson represent live theatre and musical excellence, so let the music begin,” Tohme Tohme, a spokesman for Jackson, said in a statement Monday.
The show is expected to include songs from Jackson’s Thriller and Off The Wall albums. There is no word on what songs will be included. Oh God, please let one be “Thriller.”
“This musical will be the exclusive Michael Jackson-authorized version of Thriller and Jackson will participate in every aspect of the creative process,” Nederlander said in a statement.
“I love the idea of making Thriller a musical. Girl meets boy, they fall in love, boy has big secret, now what?”
