The fest (full name: Rockstar Entergy Drink Mayhem Festival), sets out July 10 at Sleep Train Amphitheater in Sacramento. It stays outdoors until at least August 16 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in San Antonio. Along the way, it visits places like Seattle, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Albuquerque.
The announced lineup is Marilyn Manson, Slayer, Bullet For My Valentine and a yet-to-be-announced special guest on the mainstage. The Jagermeister stage will feature Trivium, All That Remains, God Forbid, Cannibal Corpse, Job for a Cowboy, Behemoth, Black Dahlia Murder and Whitechapel.
Here’s our scoop: Bullet For My Valentine – easily one of the most up-and-coming metal acts around – is getting torn away from the lineup for three days because of their demand.
They’ll miss shows in Cleveland, Pitt and Detroit because they’ll be in Germany at Wacken Festival.
“Given the great success of last year’s festival, we knew that we needed to put together a stellar group of talent for 2009 – and we have,” Mayhem producers John Reese and Kevin Lyman said in a statement. “This will be a blockbuster event, one that blends thrilling live performances with a yet-to-be-revealed surprises.”
Lyman sound familiar? Maybe the outdoorsy vibe of this festival provides a clue: He’s the brains behind Vans Warped Tour.
