Nugent Puts Up The Dukes

10:01 AM, Thursday 3/19/09 6 |   |

Here’s a band reunion you probably didn’t see coming – The Amboy Dukes, the band that launched Ted Nugent on an unsuspecting world.

You may not remember the name, but chances are you remember the song. “Journey To The Center of the Mind” has been included on various psychedelic ‘60s compilations for 40 years. What’s more, while the tune has often been said to have drug connotations, to this day Nugent claims he never knew what the song was about.

The original lineup, including Motor City Madman Nuge, is scheduled to reunite April 17 at this year’s Detroit Music Awards, where the group will perform and receive the distinguished achievement award, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Nugent joined the Amboy Dukes in 1964. “Journey to the Center of the Mind was the band’s second single.

Journey To The Center of the Mind is one of the Classic Tunes of all time!

Forget U2,  I'll buy tickets for this one.

Some of the best early heavy guitar licks ever.

I CAN SHOUT. DON'T HEAR YOU.

Seems to me that Nuge's personal views and stage personna were always one in the same. Just heard him on the radio saying "I'm 59 years old and I feel so alive it's stupid." Don't think he's quite ready for the Centerville Recreational Facility.
