Billy Bob Thornton Is A Tough Interview

10:31 AM, Thursday 4/9/09 6 |   |

If you ever get the chance to interview Billy Bob Thornton, don’t ask him about when his band formed or what he listened to when he was young. Most importantly, don’t bring up his acting career, his Academy Award or that he’s passionate about music. That is, if you know what’s good for you.

Just ask Jian Ghomeshi, host of CBC Radio’s arts and culture program. Ghomeshi had a sit-down with Thornton, but the interview quickly veered into territories guaranteed to give publicists nightmares.

When Ghomeshi asked Thornton when his band – The Boxmasters – was formed, Thornton replied, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

But that wasn’t the only non sequitur during the interview. When Ghomeshi asked Thornton about the kinds of music he listened to when he was growing up, Thornton answered by talking about the magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland.

Furthermore, when the host inferred that Thornton is passionate about music, the actor / musician answered, “Would you say that to Tom Petty?”

While the focus was on Thornton’s music, Ghomeshi did introduce him as an “Oscar-winning screenwriter, actor and director.”

Seems Thornton had a problem with that as well, telling Ghomeshi, “You were instructed not to talk about (expletive) like that.”

Granted, it was early in the morning, the time of day that’s fit for neither musicians nor barkeeps. After the interview, The Boxmasters performed an instrumental without Thornton, mainly because the actor musician didn’t have his instrument.

“I’m a drummer,” Thornton said. “We don’t cart those around at 6 o’clock in the morning.”

The interview has been preserved for the ages, as seen in the YouTube embed below.

Thornton is not a "tough interview". He is just another marginally talented primadonna blowhard "musician" who has no social graces. I guess since his acting career has taken a huge nosedive as of late he needs to be obnoxious in another context. Job well done BBT, can't wait to see your CD sales skyrocket. What a Schmendrick. Blah and phooey.

Who does Billy Bob think he is? On one hand he thinks he's such a celebrity that he can demand how an interview is conducted, and on the other hand he doesn't want to talk about that acting career that garnered him that celebrity? Talk about a *** hypocrite. This interview wouldn't even have taken place if he didn't have an acting career.

Thornton is a marginal actor and irrelevant 'musician' with a mental illness that no one pays any attention to except losers who watch shows like Acess Hollywood and look forward to Red Carpet specials before the various silly celebrity award shows.  In other words, unless you write for Oprah magazine or the National Enquier why are you bothering to interiew the guy anyway?

Sooo, Billy Bob didn't have his singing voice handy either?

My hat's off to Jian. You played it just perfect in a very tricky situation. BBT was acting like a complete a-hole! He should be embarassed. My guess is that he isn't though due to, apparently, some mental or chemical imbalance - or both.
