Outside Lands Announces Lineup

Posted on Monday April 13, 2009 at 03:14 PM 2 |

The second annual Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival has snagged quite a collection of bands and artists for three days of August fun in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, including Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Beastie Boys, Incubus and Black Eyed Peas.

But wait, there’s more.

Also on the lineup for August 28, 29 and 30 is M.I.A., Jason Mraz, Ween, The Mars Volta, Thievery Corporation and Modest Mouse, but that’s just scratching the surface.

Also expect Band Of Horses, TV On The Radio, The Dead Weather, Atmosphere, Tom Jones, Silversun Pickups, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, The National, and this week’s Pollstar HotStar, Brett Dennen, to drop a few names.

In fact, we could keep on naming performers. Like Q-Tip, Bettye LaVette, Kinky, Built To Spill, Mastodon and Deerhunter. Needless to say, calling this a “big” summer festival would hardly do justice to the event.

Along with three days of music, Outside Lands will also feature San Francisco’s famous and diverse cuisine and vino from local wineries.

As a San Francisco-based music festival, Outside Lands will also include features unique to the city’s position as a leader in technology and ecology.

For the ecologically minded, Outside Lands has created Eco Lands, which includes a place where the stage and cell phone charging station is powered by solar energy. Eco Lands will also serve up food at an organic farmer’s market as well as provide a refillable water station and recycling store.

    3 days of fun??

    Wrong!!

Try a couple  of weeks of pain and frustration.

As a resident of San Francisco living 1/2 block from G(olden) G(ate) P(ark), I have to point out to my fellow that Outside Lands Festival was a major pain in the a$$ last year for thousands of San Franciscans.

This year will probably be worse since Outside Lands Festival just recently went on with a planning meeting and totally failed to at least listen to the problems San Franciscans had with the concert last year.

    3 days of fun??

The Outside Lands Festival erected mile after mile of chain link fence in GGP and prohibited countless people from following their daily routines for at least 2 weeks. (Just imagine having someone fencing off the public property you frequent and hiring grossly under-paid security guards to bark at you to stay away for a couple of weeks from the area you have frequented without and impediment for years.)

The Outside Lands Festival displaced the fauna and destroyed a lot of the flora in GGP.

GGP was not designed for the Outside Lands Festival: It cannot handle it.

Please: Don't go. See it as it really is : A money making scheme that pursues a profit and does NOT take into account the daily lives of thousands of people and the activity area which they frequent.
