Festival International De Jazz De Montreal Announces Daily Lineups

Posted on Wednesday May 6, 2009 at 10:09 AM Add |

The 30th edition of the famed Montreal jazz extravaganza has a lot to boast about this year, like appearances by Wynton Marsalis and Chano Dominguez, Tony Bennett, Dave Brubeck, Chris Botti, Al Jarreau and Molly Johnson, Jeff Beck, Pink Martini, Al Di Meola, Joe Cocker, Brian Setzer and Jackson Browne. And that’s just the short list.

The festival, taking place at various venues throughout Montreal from June 30 to July 12, also features performances by Buddy Guy and Susan Tedeschi, Burning Spear and Toots & The Maytals, Wayne Shorter Quartet, Branford Marsalis, Ornette Coleman and Madeleine Peyroux.

Then there’s the pre-opening show scheduled for June 26 featuring Gary Burton Quartet Revisited with Pat Metheny, Steve Swallow and Antonio Sanchez.

But even the aforementioned all-star list of performers is only scratching the lineup’s surface as the festival prepares to welcome 3,000 artists and bands from more than 30 countries to entertain 2.5 million attendees. Heck, the only way organizers could make this any bigger for Montreal is if they threw in a hockey game.

Unlike many major festivals where the action takes place on multiple stages in one large location, De Jazz De Montreal creates a true jazz vibe by presenting the performers in different music venues across the city. Expect more than 450 free shows on 10 outdoor stages, plus more than 150 indoor concerts at 10 different concert venues.
