Gathering Of The Vibes Announces ‘GreenVibes’ Lineup

Posted on Monday May 11, 2009 at 02:01 PM Add |

Most music festivals would be content announcing daily lineups featuring a 40th anniversary Woodstock theme with performances by Crosby, Stills & Nash, Levon Helm and Bob Weir & Ratdog. But then, Gathering of the Vibes, which gathers July 23-26 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Conn., isn’t your typical multi-day event.

For instance, the festival is promoting family togetherness by letting kids 15 and under through the Sunday gates for free as long as they’re accompanied by a parent.

Now organizers have announced the GreenVibes Stage lineup, where the carbon footprint is radically reduced due to the stage deriving part of its power from solar energy.

What’s more, proving everybody is connected to someone (like actors to Kevin Bacon), GreenVibes has original Allman Brothers Band member Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson, who’s performing under the moniker Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, while Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, grandson of famed folk legend Pete, will be performing his own set on the environmentally minded stage.

Then there’s noted author and über Deadhead David Gans. Gans, who wrote Playing in the Band: An Oral and Visual Portrait of the Grateful Dead, and hosts Sirius Satellite Radio’s Grateful Dead Channel, definitely has some high profile connections in the music scene having performed with Keller Williams, Donna The Buffalo and Peter Rowan among others. That is, when he’s not playing with various members of The Dead.

Other performers appearing on the GreenVibes Stage include These United States, Chris Barron, Band Together and Queen Killing Kings.

Meanwhile, back at the main stage, the daily lineup includes moe., Deep Banana Blackout, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, J.J. Grey & Mofro, Keller Williams, Strangefolk, King For A Day and Lettuce on Friday, July 24.

Saturday’s bands and artists include Bob Weir & Ratdog, Levon Helm Band, Guster, State Radio, Max Creek, Assembly Of Dust, Ryan Montbleau Band, Moonalice and Perpetual Groove.

Then there’s that family-friendly Sunday with Crosby, Stills & Nash. Other bands and artists appearing on the mainstage during the festival’s last day include Buddy Guy, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, John Brown’s Body and Harlem Gospel Choir.
