Eminem returned to the concert stage last night and gave Detroit a free reminder of what a Real Slim Shady show is like.

Eminem announced the freebie on his MySpace page Sunday, saying the show would take place at an undisclosed location. The location turned out to be the MotorCity Casino’s new Sound Board room.

Wrote Detroit News Pop Writer Adam Graham:

“A healthy-looking, energized Em opened the eight song mini-set, tied to Tuesday's release of his new album Relapse, with the violent horror fantasy ‘3 a.m.’ Dressed in a black T-shirt, black hat and gray zip-up sweatshirt, he hit the stage pounding his fist to the drumroll that opens the song, while the capacity crowd of more than 2,000 welcomed Slim Shady back with open arms.”

Eminem’s last Detroit concert appearance was at the Super Bowl-related “Shady Bowl Super Party” in 2006, while his last, full-blown headlining gig was in Motown was when the Anger Management 3 tour rolled into Detroit in 2005.

According to the News, Em’s set list included seven songs from Relapse, including “Insane,” “Beautiful,” and “We Made You” plus fragments of “Hello” and “Crack a Bottle.”

The News also noted it was a sober and healthier Eminem that greeted Detroit fans, having entered rehab in 2005. At one point, after saying the night’s show might be his best if only “cause when I get off stage I’m actually going to remember it,” he asked the audience to party for him, remarking, “I can’t anymore.”

Em also had some old friends join him on stage. D12's Denaun Porter appeared with him throughout the set and the rap group’s Bizarre, Kuniva and Swift showed up for the encore to crank out a rendition of “Lose Yourself.” Eminem dedicated the song to Detroit, saying, “We can do it, y'all. Keep your heads up.”

Hmmm… Does anybody smell tour?
