Blues On The Beach

Posted on Thursday May 28, 2009 at 12:01 PM Add |

Long Beach, Ca., will be alive with the sounds of the blues this Labor Day weekend as Bobby Womack, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and a host of blues greats descend on the city’s Rainbow Lagoon Park.

The 30th annual Long Beach Blues Festival will take place September 5-6 at the park, which is adjacent to the Long Beach Marina in downtown Long Beach.

Other acts on the roster include Mavis Staples, Funky Meters, Blind Boys of Alabama, Johnny Winter, Bettye LaVette, Sonny Landreth, Hill Country Revue, Homemade Jamz Blues Band, Diunna Greenleaf and the Andy Walo Trio.

Presale tickets, priced at $39.50 per day or $70 for a weekend pass, are on sale now, with a limited number of discounted tickets on sale May 30 and advance price tickets available after that.

Since its humble beginnings three decades ago, the Long Beach Blues Festival has grown into one of the country’s largest blues events and is now the second oldest on the West Coast.

Previous fests have played host to blues and soul greats like Chuck Berry, Booker T, Taj Mahal, Dr. John, Little Richard, Jerry Butler, Bobby Blue Bland, Otis Rush, Etta James, Robert Cray, Bo Diddley, John Mayall and dozens more.

Complete details on tickets, VIP packages and the festival’s lineup are available at JazzAndBlues.org.
