John Rich Charged With Assault

09:01 AM, Friday 5/29/09 3 |   |

It’s the legal problem that won’t go away for Big & Rich’s John Rich. The “Shuttin’ Detroit Down” singer turned himself into Nashville police yesterday to face assault charges.

Earlier this year former “Nashville Star” contestant Jared Ashley filed assault charges against Rich over an incident at the country star’s private club, where Ashley claimed Rich hit him.

Rich counter sued Ashley for defamation in early April, claiming Ashley falsely stated during a radio interview that Rich had struck him in the face. According to Rich, Ashley had entered the private establishment without permission and had to be escorted out by security personnel.

Which brings us to yesterday and Rich’s appearance at a Nashville police station. Police charged Rich with two misdemeanor assault counts and one misdemeanor count of harassment before releasing him on bail.

Rich said in a statement that Ashley’s assault claims are false and that he had rejected an offer from Ashley to settle to the tune of $2.9 million, according E Online.

“I trust that the truth will come out through the process of our American justice system and that I will be completely exonerated at the end of the day,” Rich said.
