R Is For Reggae

05:01 PM, Monday 6/1/09 2 |   |

Taking a trip to the islands with the kiddies this summer? Or maybe just the beach? Be sure to pack some Bob Marley in your baby bag.

“But wait!,” I hear you cry. “Are the jammin’ tunes of Uncle Bob really suitable for my impressionable future corporate executive?”

They are now, courtesy of Ziggy Marley, the reggae legend’s oldest son.

B is for Bob, due June 23 on Island Records, is an all new collection of Bob Marley’s hits that includes eight tracks Ziggy re-tooled by subtracting certain instruments and adding others to give them a more contemporary feel, as well as four songs left untouched.

“Three Little Birds,” “Bend Down Low,” “Small Axe” and “Stir It Up” are among the re-imagined cuts and originals include “Could You Be Loved,” “One Love/People Get Ready” and “Lively Up Yourself.”

“My father’s music spans generations and with B is for Bob, we give the youngest their very own Bob Marley record,” Ziggy explained.

Or in the words of Bob himself: “Me is a common sense man. That mean when me explain things me explain it in a very simple way. That mean if I explain it to a baby the baby will understand too, you know.”

The album, which comes in a recyclable and biodegradable Eco-Pak, unlocks bonus online digital content including coloring book pates and a sing-a-long music video. Each CD also includes a free one-year subscription to Parents magazine.

I know right? I'm totally getting one for my sister-in-law. She loves reggae music and is about to have her first baby any day. I also say, Thanks for the heads up!
