Secondary Ticketing Gives Back

09:01 AM, Saturday 6/6/09 6 |   |

It’s not very often that one hears good news regarding the secondary ticket market these days, but the recent launch of a new ticket fundraising platform is looking to change that.

Tickets-for-Charity provides fans with an outlet to purchase prime seats to high-demand shows, adding in a charitable component by making tickets available at face value plus a donation that benefits participating non-profits, according to a statement.

“The beauty of our platform is that it raises millions of dollars for charity without asking anyone to ‘give’ to charity,” Tickets-For-Charity CEO Jord Poster said. “At Tickets-for-Charity, donations are captured from the ticket premiums that consumers are currently paying ticket brokers and scalpers, but given the option would much rather direct to charity.”

The company reportedly raised more than $3 million in donations for more than 30 charities prior to its launch. A recent James Taylor outing raised more than $300,000 for groups including the National Resources Defense Council.

Taylor said in the statement that Tickets-for-Charity allows artists to “join forces with this visionary organization with minimal effort to make a real difference.”

In fact, Taylor’s such a fan of Tickets-for-Charity, he’s apparently gotten his people involved – his lawyer, Joel Katz, and agent, Creative Artist Agency’s Rob Light, sit on the board of directors.

Other artists participating with Tickets-for-Charity this summer include Elton John & Billy Joel, Brad Paisley, Coldplay, Carlos Santana, Kenny Chesney, Sugarland, Creed and Diana Krall, among others.

sounds like a scam to scalp tickets and make a profit for psuedo legit enviromental PC causes to me  . With celebrities like James Taylor involved I doubt if much money will end up in the hands of legit charities.

Sounds legit to me.  I checked out their website and they have some awesome concerts up there.  Plus, I like James T so if he's promoting it I'll definitely give it a try.  What have you got to lose except some money that goes to charity?

Really - you're questioning the legitimacy of the NRDC??  Wow...I thought I was cynical, but that takes the cake.

    hooterville....what are you talking about?

James Taylor is an honest supporter of many legit causes  He has a large following, by the way, which means big bucks for legitimate organizations. James Taylor scamming...you must be joking!

Tickets For Charity..great idea...wonderful alternative to filling scalpers wallets!
