Billy Corgan Wants To Do Lunch

01:01 PM, Thursday 6/25/09 1 |   |

You know that game where you pick the top three people, dead, living or fictional, you’d like to have lunch with? Is Smashing Pumpkins’ frontman Billy Corgan on your list? If so, Charity Buzz has the deal for you.

How much is a lunch with Corgan worth to you? Bidding on CharityBuzz.com is currently up to $950, with the next minimum bid set at $1,050 (bidding increases in increments of $100). The website notes that since bidding opening June 4, eight fans have promised away their hard-earned cash with bids to pick Billy’s brain while breaking bread.

If you’re the lucky winner of the lunch date, you can choose to dine in L.A. or Chicago with the meal set at a mutually convenient time. The exact restaurant is TBD. Bet you’re thinking the restaurant will be the most posh, fancy-pants establishment ever, right? Well, maybe the winner hopes that’s not the case as whoever wins the bidding war gets the honor of picking up the lunch check.

Man, I wonder what Corgan would order. What would he drink? Would he offer to split dessert?

The auction benefits the Songwriters Hall of Fame. CharityBuzz.com explains that one of the organization’s goals is “to establish a permanent, state-of-the-art museum in New York City to highlight the achievements of songwriting greats and acknowledge their rightful place in our culture. The facility will also serve as a resource and center of study for scholars, aspiring songwriters, students and music lovers young and old to learn about our musical heritage.”

If hanging out with the head Pumpkin isn’t your thing, other charity auctions benefiting the Songwriters Hall of Fame include two tickets and backstage passes to see Cher perform at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace (bidding is up to $8,500), a Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora signed guitar (bidding is up to $950) and “You’re So Vain” handwritten lyrics from Carly Simon (bidding is up to $750).

Additional Charity Buzz auctions include Jason Mraz, Wynonna Judd, Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, Bonnie Raitt, Kate Voegele, Daughtry, Matchbox 20, George Strait, Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, Jerry Garcia, Julianne Hough, 311, Neil Diamond and Kenny Rogers.

Bidding for the Corgan lunch ends June 30 at 1:17 p.m. EST. (Cher’s bid ends June 30 at 2 p.m. EST, Jon Bon Jovi/Richie Sambora’s bid ends June 30 at 1:16 p.m. EST and the Carly Simon bid ends June 30 at 2:04 p.m. EST.)

Yeah, what a great idea! Trying to talk to someone in the "industry" while they are more interested in their cell phone.
