Scheduled To Appear – Goodbye MJ

04:23 PM, Thursday 6/25/09 1 |   |

In honor of the passing of Michael Jackson this afternoon, I thought I’d take a look back at some of the happier moments in what was at one time the brightest career of the 20th century. Regardless of what’s happened in the intervening years, his death is a loss.

A 13-year-old Michael singing the first of his 13 solo hits in the U.S., “Ben,” on the “Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour” in 1972.

Also from 1972, MJ and the rest of the Jackson 5 rip up “Top of the Pops” with “Rockin’ Robin.”

Here’s Jackson in 1983 at “Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever” introducing the moonwalk, the dance that would become his signature move.

In 1985, MJ teamed up with a celestial lineup of singers, including Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan to record “We Are The World.”

The King of Pop brought along a gospel choir to help him perform “Man in the Mirror” at the 1988 Grammy Awards.

MJ enlisted the help of another troubled pop star, Britney Spears, for this rendition of “The Way You Make Me Feel” at 2001’s “Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary Celebration.”

Rest in peace, Michael.
