Follow-up to Pixies' 'Trompe le Monde'

01:01 PM, Friday 6/26/09 1 |   |

Nearly 18 years after the band’s last album, Pixies frontman Black Francis says a new release is in the works.

Francis told NME.com he could see the band recording music to work alongside a film.

"The band needs to work with a film director," he told NME. "Quentin Tarantino or someone like that. It'd be like, 'Make some music for our film, you guys [Pixies] be the sound of the film'. Spread the word about the idea 'cos I think it's gonna work."

And what about a more conventional album?

"We'd have to finally get sick of playing the old repertoire and go, 'Alright, f**k it. Let's play new songs in our set.' But the only way we'd really want to do it is if it was really great."

After all, Francis explained the band has the fans to think of.

"There's a fear that if we try to commit something to tape then even if it doesn't come out stellar, somehow those recordings will get leaked. The band is beloved by its audience, so we don't want to f**k it up."

Pixies’ most recent studio album was 1991’s Trompe le Monde. The band broke up in 1993 and reunited in 2004, recording the single “Bam Thwok” and the Warren Zevon cover “Ain’t That Pretty at All.” Last week the band released Minotaur, a compilation box set of all of the Pixies’ studio albums.

Last Thursday the Pixies played Heineken Ejekt Festival in Athens, Greece, and the Isle of Wight Festival in Newport, U.K., June 14.

Francis is currently touring the U.S. with his wife Violet Clark and their new band Grand Duchy, with dates on the books through September. The band’s debut album Petits Fours, was released in April.

Francis is also touring North America as a solo artist with shows through August.

Would love to see it happen, yet Francis would have to LET GO OF HIS EGO.  If the project flames out, I would hate to say it, yet, you may be viewed as a BLOATED Billy Corgan!

    Cheers!
