Party In The Pines

Posted on Wednesday July 8, 2009 at 12:01 PM Add |

If you’re itching for a music festival that’s not in the desert, smack-dab in the middle of a major metropolitan area or out in the parking lot of an arena, you’re in luck. New York City’s Kemado Records is packing up its roster and heading for California.

The label has teamed up with promoter Folk Yeah! for In The Pines: Big Sur Festival 2009, which is set to take place August 29 in the natural redwood amphitheatre at the Henry Miller Library in scenic Big Sur, Calif.

The mini-festival will feature a who’s who from Kemado and Mexican Summer (its vinyl-only imprint) including Dungen, Wooden Ships, Kurt Vile and the newly reunited VietNam.

Tickets for the event, priced at the insanely-reasonable sum of $29, are available at HenryMiller.org.

Other acts on the bill, which runs the gamut from metal to folk and everything in between, include Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Farmer Dave Scher, Saviours, Wood and non-kemado artists Gang Gang Dance.

The pines are alive with the sound of music. Or at least they will be August 29.

The Henry Miller Library is memorial of sorts to the late author and was created in 1981 by Emil White, Miller’s longtime friend, former caretaker and personal secretary. The non-profit library, which also serves as an art gallery, is run by the Big Sur Land Trust, which works to preserve Big Sur as an invaluable natural resource.

Complete info on the library and its mission, as well as directions and additional details for In The Pines, is available here.
