Win A Girl Talk VIP Package

01:01 PM, Tuesday 7/14/09 10 |   |

Are your eyeballs floating because you’ve been downing as many cans of Squirt as you can so you can go to the Girl Talk show on July 24 in Pomona, Calif., and meet him? We can help!

Before we get to that though, we want to congratulate the winners of last month’s Björk haiku contest. Even though the number of entries was light, our crack team of literary experts had a heck of a time choosing just two.

The winners of the deluxe edition (2-CD/2-DVD) version of Voltaic: The Volta Tour are: Timothy, with “Each note sends me to / A state of emergency / A sonic cliff top” and Naylor, with “A pixie since birth / Father never understood / How she swam in ice.”

Great job guys!

Now, on to our next contest, an evening with Girl Talk. As I mentioned previously, Girl Talk’s Pomona show is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. The admission fee for the show is empty Squirt soft drink cans which will be donated to HHGLA.

And there’s some good news, when the show was first announced, fans needed to bring 36 cans to get in, but organizers have changed that to just one can. However, if you wanna get in on the meet & greet with Girl Talk, aka Gregg Gillis, you’ll need to bring 100.

Which brings us to our contest. The folks at M80 have offered us a killer package to pass on to Girl Talk fans: admission to the show, a VIP badge for the meet & greet, a Girl Talk T-shirt and a copy of GT’s latest album, Feed the Animals.

We racked our brains coming up with a challenge for you and we think we’ve got a pretty cool one. To honor the fierce cut-and-paste musical skills of Girl Talk, we want you to write a sentence or two using as many of the titles of the tracks from Animals as you can. Whoever comes up with the cleverest or wittiest wins.

Here are the titles: “Play Your Part (Pt. 1),” “Shut the Club Down,” “Still Here,” “What It’s All About,” “Set It Off,” “No Pause,” “Like This,” “Give Me A Beat,” “Hands in the Air,” “In Step,” “Let Me See You,” “Here’s the Thing,” “Don’t Stop” and “Play Your Part (Pt. 2).”

There you have it. Get as creative as you like. You can write about Girl Talk’s music or his live shows or you can just try to crack us up. (By the way, feel free to leave off the Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 – or leave them in if you like.)

Standard rules apply: Try to keep it clean (this is basically a family site). Enter as often as you like and please make sure you signed up with a valid e-mail address so we can get your prize to you. Employees of Pollstar and their families, as well as employees of Girl Talk, his label and his team aren’t eligible to win.

The contest runs from now until 10 a.m. PST July 20. The winner will be notified as soon as possible after the end of the contest to give them plenty of time to plan for the show.

Can we break up the song titles? Or do we need to use the whole title?

Ooh Maye, we had to have a debate about that one. In the end, we decided that you should keep the words of the titles together because it makes it a little more challenging and is likely to result in more interesting sentences.

    my first Girl Talk show:

it was Like This, he asked the crowd to "Play Your Part" and Let me See You put your Hands In The Air, but Here's The Thing....Don't Stop!!"

we did, the crowd anxiously In Step, yelled back "Give Me A Beat!!!!!!"

he Set It Off!!   had the crowd bouncing with No Pause!

he pulled us on stage to fuel the fire and Play Our Part a second time.

The energy in the club was off the walls!

It was insane!!!!!!! he literally Shut The Club Down.

some bouncer tapped me on the should telling me "the shows been over for hours now....we're closing down"

I was Still Here, on the stage dancing.

    thats What It's All About!

DON'T STOP, SHUT THE CLUB DOWN.  Hand's in the AIR, in step.  Play your part.  WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT.
