That left a tough act to follow. As lead singer for The Seeds, it was Saxon’s unmistakable growl that powered the band’s classic hit – “Pushin’ Too Hard.”
But tour promoter Patrick Hand found someone equal to the task – Moby Grape guitarist Jerry Miller. Before the Grape, Miller spent some time playing with Bobby Fuller before the emergence of the Bobby Fuller Four. After Moby Grape’s demise, Miller, along with two Grape alumni, formed the Rhythm Dukes, and shared the stage at times with likes of Eric Clapton, The Doors and Jimi Hendrix.
The other two bands on the California ’66 Revue are The Electric Prunes, known for the ‘60s classic “I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night),” and Love, led by Johnny Echols, lead guitarist for the band that was led by the late, great Arthur Lee. Joining Echols is Baby Lemonade, the band that backed Lee from 1993 until his death in 2005.
