Want a backstage peek at what goes into prepping the Traveling Circus & Medicine Show featuring Counting Crows, Michael Franti & Spearhead and Augustana? You know you do.
Last week the Crows’ Adam Duritz sent an e-mail blast to fans warning them not to arrive casually late for any of the shows on the tour because everybody is walking out on stage at the time stated on the ticket, and from then on it’s wherever the mood takes them.
Now you can get a glimpse at how this tour came together by eyeballing the videos embedded below.
On July 10, Duritz wrote:
“It'll probably be different every night. The only thing I know for sure is that EVERY show on this tour is going to start with EVERYONE onstage together and we're going to all be running on & off stage all night playing on each others songs and playing songs all together and basically just playing whenever we feel like playing. So you get my point, right?”

This wasn't a very enjoyable show. Durtiz is probably just upset that the seats are half empty for the shows. Overpriced tickets and the crows alienating fans by not playing what they want to hear will do that....

At more than $75 I can say the Las Vegas show will probably suffer poor attendance as well. They've been billing this as a Counting Crows show and my expectation is the venue will be getting many, many complaints over the format of this show from the people who have paid the premium ticket price. This experiment that is likely to blow up in the face of Counting Crows.

I like the format of the show. It's not playing my market, however. A free-for-all makes things interesting. I know the Counting Crows music, I never heard of the other bands and not sure I would pay the ticket price to find out. Another example of Live Nation overpaying for acts.
