Jay-Z Replaces Beasties at All Points West

Posted on Thursday July 23, 2009 at 01:01 PM 3 |

The folks behind All Points West Music and Arts Festival have found a replacement for the Beastie Boys – rapper extraordinaire Jay-Z.

The festival, which runs July 31 – Aug. 2 at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, N.J., was supposed to have the Beastie Boys as headliners on the first night. That is, until the group announced it was postponing its tour and putting the new album on hold so member Adam “MCA” Yauch could undergo surgery for a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland.

So it’s Jay-Z to the rescue. The artist joins a lineup that also features headliners Tool on Saturday, Coldplay on Sunday, and includes performances by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fleet Foxes, Xavier Rudd, My Bloody Valentine, Neko Case, The Ting Tings, Echo & The Bunnymen, Elbow and Silversun Pickups.

I must applaud Jay-Z for the work he's done around the world to raise awareness of water issues. If this appearance helps him raise funds to aid that cause, then good on ya!
