Cohen’s body was discovered in Seaside Heights, N.J., during the predawn hours of Saturday morning. An autopsy report indicated she suffered chest, head and abdominal injuries.
Police have a suspect in the case. He’s 23-year-old Daniel Bark of Toms River, N.J., according to the New York Daily News. Bark is charged with second-degree manslaughter and could get 10 to 15 years in prison if convicted.
Cohen, dubbed “Glitter Girl” for her eye makeup, tried out twice for American Idol. The first time was in 2007 during the show’s 7th season when she sang Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody To Love” in an audition segment that aired in 2008. The judges weren’t impressed and she let loose with a full-blown rant as soon as she returned backstage – a moment captured on video that quickly went viral.
Cohen also tried out for American Idol the following season.
Police are reportedly seeking more information about the incident. Cohen was reportedly studying veterinary medicine at Montgomery County Community College.
