Michael Franti Released From Hospital After Emergency Appendectomy

Posted on Wednesday July 29, 2009 at 11:06 AM 2 |

Hearing a surgeon describe your recent appendectomy as “one of the worst ruptured appendixes that they’ve ever seen” is probably not one of life’s highlights, but that’s what Michael Franti heard after his organ was yanked.

Franti’s appendix was removed July 23, and he was released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center yesterday. Needless to say, this recent turn of events results in Franti and Spearhead missing a few dates on the current “Saturday Night Rebel Rockers Traveling Circus & Medicine Show Tour” which also features Counting Crows and Augustana.

Canceled is Franti’s performance in Tulsa on July 31. Franti will also miss tour stops in Houston Aug. 1; Austin Aug. 3 and Dallas Aug. 4. He is expected to return to the tour Aug. 6 in Biloxi, Miss.

“I would like to thank all the doctors that have taken great care with me and the nurses and staff at Cedars-Sinai that made my stay as pleasant as possible on the 8th floor,” Franti said.

Franti is known as somewhat of a video buff, and he documented his recent emergency appendectomy on his YouTube channel. The graphic footage is not for the squeamish, but if you must watch, just click on this link for all up-close-and-personal details.

.....and I am sure that I will not be able to get a refund for my Dallas tickets next week. No dis respect intended, but the only reason I bought the tickets was because of MF&S.

I was right. Apparently the show must go on and Ticketbastard is not giving refunds for people that were only going to see MF & Spearhead. The credit card companies guarantee may take care of it.

Get well Michael. I hope you come back to DFW soon.......
