Les Paul Dies

09:18 AM, Thursday 8/13/09 7 |   |

Les Paul, whose innovations with the solid-body guitar made the distinctive sound of rock 'n' roll possible, died Aug. 13 at 94, according to a representative.

His many recording innovations include overdubbing, delay effects such as "sound on sound" and tape delay, phasing effects, and multitrack recording.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Jeff Beck in 1988, just one of numerous honors he received over the years, Paul had a lengthy career that spanned broadcasting, performing, composition and that iconic guitar that bears his name.

According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.

Here's a clip from "Chasing Sound," a 2007 documentary about the legendary musician's remarkable career.

Even with all the Kudos given to him by Millionaire Rock Stars, he remained down to earth, approachable & a gentlemen.  RIP, many should follow his mold.  He was one of a kind.

Les Paul could probably lay claim to being the father of rock n' roll as rightfully as anybody on the planet.  His contributions were enormous. A sad loss - thanks for all the great  inventions,  music  and joy Les!
