Cole At The Bowl

Posted on Thursday August 27, 2009 at 05:01 PM Add |

Grammy-winning singer Natalie Cole will return to the stage for the first time since undergoing kidney transplant surgery next month.

Cole will close out the 2009 Jazz series Sept. 9 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Under the direction of Scott Dunn, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra will open the evening with an exploration of jazz standards from different genres like Cole Porter’s “Love for Sale,” Oliver Nelson’s “Stolen Moments,” David Raskin’s theme from the film-noir classic “Laura,” Frank Foster’s “Blues in Hoss’ Flat” and contemporary composer Maria Schneider’s “Aires de Lando.”

Following intermission, Cole will join the orchestra, conducted by Gail Deadrick, to revisit hits from her catalog including her 1975 Grammy-winning debut “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)," “Inseparable,” “Our Love,” “Pink Cadillac” and “Miss You Like Crazy.”

Tickets, priced from $1 to $96 are available at the venue box office or at Hollywood Bowl.com.

In April, Cole revealed to CNN’s Larry King that both of her kidneys had failed as a result of contracting Hepatitis C. Fans around the world responded with offers to donate a kidney within moments of the announcement, jamming phone lines and flooding the show with emails.

The singer underwent successful transplant surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on May 18, just a few hours before of the death of her sister Carol “Cookie” Cole from cancer.
