Outside Lands’ Audio/Visual Waves

Promoters of San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival announced the festival will stream via YouTube, allowing everyone to get a taste of what’s happening inside Outside.

The festival, produced by Another Planet Entertainment, Superfly Productions and Starr Hill Presents, begins today and runs through Sunday at Golden Gate Park with Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz, Thievery Corporation, The Dead Weather, Silversun Pickups, Raphael Saadiq, Cage The Elephant and Atmosphere on the lineup.

This will mark the first time a major music festival is streamed live on YouTube. Along with eyeballing live performances, viewers will also be able to access archived performances and highlights on YouTube’s Outside Lands channel.

“Music and many of the artists performing at Outside Lands have always found a home and audience on YouTube,” YouTube Strategic Partnerships’ Ross Hoffman said. “We’re thrilled to bring this incredible live music festival to everyone in our community who won’t be there in-person to experience the show.”

But the Internet isn’t the only platform delivering Outside Lands performances. The original wireless delivery system – radio – will also have a hand in bringing the festival to the masses.

Specifically, free radio. Toyota’s Free Yr Radio has been making the festival rounds, hosting the Free Yr Radio Broadcast Stage with local indie stations. Free Yr Radio was at All Points West with Rutgers University’s 90.3 FM The Core where it hosted interviews and performances with acts like Todd Barry, Tokyo Police Club and Akron/Family.

The Outside Lands stop means partnering up with local indie station KUSF to air interviews and performances with many of the acts appearing on the three-day festival, including Dengue Fever, John Vanderslice and The Morning Benders and Portugal. The Man.
