Not All Is Sublime

04:31 PM, Wednesday 9/2/09 6 |   |

Apparently there is a spot of controversy involving the former members of Sublime and the name they’ve chosen to go by.

Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh, who along with the late Bradley Nowell comprised Sublime, have been performing under their former moniker, playing Sublime songs with a new singer. But, according to one person close to the situation, the band members are finding out that sometimes it’s not so easy to use old band names.

Although Nowell died in 1996, his estate is still here and it owns the band’s trademarks, recorded music, performance rights and merchandise branding. Apparently representatives for Nowell’s estate and reps for the band will be in talks soon to hash things out.

I love that they are making music together agian, but please, DO NOT CALL IT SUBLIME.  Reason being, it's NOT Sublime.   I think the best option would be to reform as the Long Beach Dub Allstars, plus, that way you can play Sublime and LBDAS material.

Just being proactive, but Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC both went on after their lead singers died. There are a tons of bands that continue with new lead singers. Please skip the Nirvana/Beatles what if they got replacement blah blah blah......Again just being proactive................Does this mean Pennywise should change their name?......Again just being proactive to future posters

It would seem to me, regardless of who owns the band name, etc... ..keeping the name out there thru live performances can't help but create demand for the "copyright"  catalog material. A win-win for everyone. Let's all play nice. btw ACDC became a BETTER band with a new singer.

There is no Sublime without Brad.  I agree with the guy who said they should go under the Long Beach Dub All Stars name.  I saw LBDAS at the Warped Tour in 2002 (whatever year Green Day and NOFX were headliners) and if you closed your eyes, it sounded just LIKE Sublime on the record.
