The Other Kind Of Song-Sharing

01:01 PM, Tuesday 9/8/09 34 |   |

Korean Internet users have taken some of the shine off the solo debut album by G-Dragon, which has topped the K-pop charts since mid-August. The leader of the popular boy band Big Bang has been accused of plagiarism, specifically stealing from songs of Western artists.

The accusations have been so strong that several publishing companies have said they will investigate.

The title track of the album, “Heartbreaker,” is said to have a striking resemblance to Flo Rida’s “Right Round.” Also, the song “Butterfly” seems to rip off Oasis’ “She’s Electric.”

The rights to “Right Round” in Korea are controlled by four companies: Warner Chappell Music Korea, Sony ATV Publishing Korea, Fuji Pacific Music Korea and EMI Music Publishing Korea.

Both Warner Chappell and Sony ATV said they have noticed the similarities and will check with the composers of “Right Round.” However, EMI Music said it saw no similarity.

G-Dragon’s management company, YG Entertainment, has not officially commented.

    www.youtube.com/watch : MV for Heartbreaker by G-Dragon.

Personally i don't find it "plagiarism"... i think a bit of it was influenced by Flo Rida's Right Round probably.

Modern artists make music that give influence to each other.. unless its an exact copy (or almost) , if it still shares a similar style we shudnt say its a plagiarism..

It is totally a plagiarism. I think some of the writer of comments are Korean, especially G-Dragon's fans. I'm Korean too but I respect the band, Oasis. Everyone who has ears would feel the similarity of G-dragon's songs and ones of Flo Rida and Oasis.

And nowadays there are so many plagiarisms on pop-song in South Korea. I wish copyrighters to blame g-dragon and plagiarism in Korea goes away. It's not G-dragon's song but plagiarism. Clearly.

This song is not an absolute plagiarism. If you're plagiarizing a song, any song in the world that it is plagiarism. Koreans' witch hunt ashamed.
