A Big Night For Miller, Fogerty At Americana Music Awards

12:01 PM, Friday 9/18/09 Add |   |

Buddy Miller scored four Americana Music Association Honors awards and John Fogerty was honored with a lifetime achievement award Sept. 17 in Nashville.

Miller won artist of the year while his song “Written In Chalk” – recorded with wife Julie – snagged him album of the year. The singer/songwriter and his spouse also won duo/group of the year and Miller’s song “Chalk,” which he performed with Patty Griffin, won song of the year.

The incredible collection of songs that is the John Fogerty catalog gathered him a lifetime achievement honor for songwriting. Other lifetime achievement honors went to Asleep At The Wheel for performing; Ken Levitan for executive work; Jim Rooney as a producer/engineer and Sam Bush as an instrumentalist.

It wasn’t a complete sweep for Miller. Instrumentalist of the year award, of which Miller has already won twice before, went to Gurf Morlix.

Justin Townes Earle won new artist of the year and the late, great Lowell George of Little Feat, was honored with the President’s Award.

Hosted by Jim Lauderdale, the Americana Music Association awards was held at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. For more information on the Americana Music Association, please click here for their Web site.
