The Yanks Are Coming

08:01 AM, Wednesday 9/23/09 Add |   |

U.S. musical acts will stage their own invasion of Germany this fall, when Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon, Green Day, Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Katy Perry, Jonas Brothers and Kanye West travel to Berlin for the MTV Europe Awards.

The BBC reports Gaga and Kings of Leon lead the pack at the Nov. 5 awards with five nominations each and will go toe-to-toe in three categories: best song, best live act and best world stage performance.

Other acts with multiple noms include Beyoncé with four and Eminem and Green Day with three each.

Yanks dominate the best group category, with Black Eyed Peas, Green Day, Jonas Brothers and Kings of Leon vying for the title with Germany’s Tokio Hotel.

Best song contestants include Gaga’s “Poker Face,” Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody,” Beyoncé’s “Halo,” David Guetta and Kelly Rowland’s “When Love Takes Over” and Black Eyed Peas “I Got A Feeling” – which, coincidentally, was produced by Guetta.

Winners for the majority of categories will be chosen by MTV viewers via online vote.

Confirmed performers so far for the ceremonies at O2 World in Berlin include Green Day, Leona Lewis and Tokio Hotel.

Let’s hope Kanye leaves the Hennessy and at least part of his ego at home.
