Fiddler Amy Farris Dies

Posted on Wednesday September 30, 2009 at 03:49 PM Add |

Amy Farris, a fiddler with Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women, died over the weekend of Sept. 26-27, friends and local music blog Austin360.com report. Farris, an Austin native living in Los Angeles, was preparing for an Oct. 3 set at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in San Francisco.

Farris' credits include backing artists including Ray Price, Brian Wilson, Kelly Willis, Bruce Robison and Alejandro Escovedo, according to Austin360.

"My dear sweet friend Amy Farris died over the weekend," Willis posted to her Twitter account Sept. 30. "Together we weren't exactly fearless. But we did it anyway. I'm devastated."

Dave Alvin posted the following on his Facebook page:

"Mourning the loss of my friend and musical compatriot, Amy Farris.  The words sad and sorrowful are too weak to express what I'm feeling.  Rest in Peace, Amy."
