Reatard announced the news in a Twitter post early yesterday morning:
“Band quit ! F**k them ! They are boring rich kids who can't play for [s]**t anyways .. Say hello to your ugly and boring wifes opps I mean lifes guys suck it.”
The Shattered Records Tour kicked off Sept. 28 in Chicago and has made stops in Toronto, Montreal, New York and Allston, Mass.
Reatard and his band last played together Saturday at the Ottobar in Baltimore.
And what about the rest of his tour?
Reatard says he hopes to wrap up the rest of this month’s dates in addition to following through on his upcoming European tour.
"I'm going to be auditioning new members soon and I really hope to make it to Europe and start fresh," Reatard told NME.com. "All the bulls**t aside, our band is a really easy one to be in. Ride in the van, listen to jams, load in gear, eat great food, drink free beer, get paid well, load out, go to the hotel, repeat."
He added that he doesn’t hate his former band members – but that the news definitely came out of left field.
"I honestly love those guys no matter what my dumb Twitter post says. They kinda quit out of nowhere, me and the tour manager thought it was a joke!"
Yesterday Reatard posted a Twitter message inviting potential bandmates interested in joining him on tour to contact him through e-mail.
“So who wants to see just how terrible it is to play in my band . I mean its so so hard I promise its the worst :) Jayreatard@gmail.com”
A representative with Reatard's agency, The Windish Agency, confirmed with Pollstar that as for now, all the dates lined up are good to go.
It will be interesting to see if Reatard pulls this off.
He doesn’t have much time as the next gig lined up is Oct. 15 at the Crocodile Café in Seattle.
Additional U.S. dates include Dante’s in Portland, Ore. (Oct. 17), Slim’s in San Francisco (Oct. 19), The Casbah in San Diego (Oct. 20) and El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles (Oct. 21).
The European tour kicks off Oct. 28 at the La Maroquinerie in Paris and wraps up Nov. 16 at Whelans in Dublin, Ireland.
The tour makes stops in Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Belgium and the U.K.
