Drummer Matt Tong hinted to BBC’s “Subculture” that the band, which is in the midst of a U.K. trek, that he and the other members need some time away from each other to consider Bloc Party’s future.
“Unfortunately that is going to be it for the time being,” Tong said. “We definitely need to have a break and gain a bit of perspective on life outside of the band. Hopefully, if we do reconvene at some point we’ll be refreshed with many new ideas.”
The band’s drummer isn’t the only one casting doubt on Bloc Party’s future. Frontman Kele Okereke, who announced a hiatus for the group in September, has been much more cryptic about its future lately, telling an interviewer in Australia, “We may take a year off, we may take three years off. We may never make a record again or we may head straight back in and do a record.”
Tong’s outlook on the band’s future isn’t quite so nebulous or negative however. He told BBC, “Kele is an insatiable workaholic so you’ll definitely hear form him again along with [guitarist] Russell [Lissack] and [bassist] Gordon [Moakes].”
