Beck Replaces Clapton At HoF Gig

09:01 AM, Tuesday 10/27/09 1 |   |

Eric Clapton will not be appearing at this week’s concert honoring the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Seems the guitar slinger has found a more important engagement – the hospital, for removal of gallstones.

A news release posted on the Eric Clapton website says he will undergo a “minor medical procedure.”

The Hall of Fame announced Jeff Beck will perform in Clapton’s place.

Clapton was scheduled to perform Friday during the second night of the Oct. 29 and 30 event at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Other bands and artists scheduled to appear include Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkel, Bonnie Raitt, Smokey Robinson, James Taylor and Little Richard Oct. 29. U2, Metallica, Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison and Jerry Lee Lewis are set for Oct. 30.

From EricClapton.com:

"He will spend time recuperating at home in the UK and is very sorry to disappoint the fans and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He remains committed to his 2010 concert schedule."
