Mae Keeps On Giving

Posted on Friday October 30, 2009 at 03:01 PM Add |

Before you finishing celebrating Halloween and hanging out with the Great Pumpkin, Mae has a small request – vote for the indie band on IdeaBlob.com. This isn’t a selfish plea or some kind of popularity contest, but rather a way to help U.S. teachers in need.

This year the band launched its “12 Songs, 12 Months, 1 Goal: Make a Difference” project. The band has been releasing one song per month on their website with all proceeds going towards humanitarian efforts and causes Mae supports. By selling each song digitally for a minimum donation of $1 each, the band has already raised $55,095.48 toward charity so far.

If you think Mae’s idea is simply brilliant, the band would love for you to vote for their idea on IdeaBlob.com. What does the band get if they win? Why, the chance to donate even more to charity!

The band has teamed up with DonorsChoose, an organization that helps provide U.S. teachers with much needed classroom supplies. If Mae’s idea is chosen as IdeaBlob.com’s October 2009 winner, the band will get to donate $10,000 to the organization.

Mae explains on its IdeaBlob.com page that the band “wishes to help a teacher, a classroom, a school in need in all 50 states before the end of 2009” and that the classroom supplies will “make each educational experience fun, thorough, and priceless.”

Mae needs fans to include voting on their Halloween/weekend to-do lists because the competition ends Oct. 31 – that’s tomorrow!

Earlier this year Mae’s fans came through for the band and the guys won another $10,000 contest on IdeaBlob.com. Mae joined forces with Habitat For Humanity to use the funds to help build a home for a family in need in Newport News, Va.

Mae is currently touring the U.S. in support of (A)fternoon, the second of three eight-song discs being released this year. The previous disc, (M)orning, helped raise funds for the local Habitat For Humanity in Newport News.

You can catch Mae tonight at Musica in Akron, Ohio followed by a Saturday who at Mixtape Café in Grand Rapids, Mich., and a Sunday show at Skully’s Music Diner in Columbus, Ohio. The band has U.S. dates lined up through the first week of November followed by a round of Japanese gigs and a two-night stand at Pipeline Café in Honolulu.
