Knife-wielding AC/DC Fan Sentenced To Jail

Posted on Monday November 2, 2009 at 02:01 PM 2 |

A fight last year between Canadian housemates over the merits of AC/DC’s music led one fan to defend the honor of the Australian rock band by stabbing his buddy with a kitchen knife. The fan has been sentenced to four years in jail.

James Ivison, 37, invited another resident of Winnipeg, Manitoba’s Furby Street rooming house over for a couple of beers back in October 2008, according to the Winnipeg Sun. The hangout turned not so friendly when Ivison’s 22-year-old buddy began arguing with Ivison about AC/DC, which Ivison was playing in the background.

The housemate upped the ante, switching from making fun of Ivison’s preference in rock bands to his sexual preference.

"The victim then started to question the accused's sexual preference, angering the accused," Crown attorney Dave Mann told court.

First mocking AC/DC and now this? Apparently Ivison couldn’t handle his friend’s taunts because a fight broke out with Ivison arming himself with a kitchen knife and the victim grabbing a frying pan.

By the time the victim dropped his weapon of choice, Ivison stabbed him three times in the chest and two times in the stomach. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was discharged the next day with no damage to any major organs.

"[Ivison] is very fortunate this is not a manslaughter," Mann said, according to the Winnipeg Sun.

Ivison was sentenced to four years in prison. The Sun noted that he only has to spend two more years in the slammer because he “received double-credit of two years for time served.”

Ivison was also sentenced to an additional three years of supervised probation.

This isn’t Ivison first run in with the law as Ivison and the victim both have lengthy criminal records.

Do you think Ivison is nuts? Would you grab a knife and face years in jail to defend your favorite band?

Extradite him to California!  Lock him up with The Night Stalker/Richard Ramirez!  They can debate Scott or Johnson?  Dial or Ivory?
