Former Stone Roses Singer Arrested For Assault

Posted on Tuesday November 3, 2009 at 01:01 PM Add |

Former Stone Roses singer Ian Brown was arrested Monday morning on suspicion of domestic abuse.

Brown, who fronted the British alternative rock band for 12 years before they split in 1996, is suspected of assaulting his wife, Mexican model and actress Fabiola Quiroz, according to Reuters. The couple married in 1999 and together they have a nine-year-old son.

Police showed up at a residential address in the West Kensington area of west London just after 8 a.m. after neighbors called in a disturbance. The residence is thought to be the couple’s home.

"On arrival, a 37-year-old woman made an allegation of domestic assault and a 46-year-old man was arrested at the address and taken to a West London police station," the Metropolitan police said in a statement.

Brown was released on bail and is due back in court in December.

After the Stone Roses broke up Brown went on to pursue a successful solo career. He last performed Oct. 1 at Madinat Jumeirah Arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Brown has a month full of U.K. and Ireland dates on the books, kicking things off with a Nov. 22 show at St. George’s Market in Belfast, U.K., with gigs lined up through a Dec. 19 performance at Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, U.K.

The Stone Roses released two albums, 1989’s self-titled debut and 1994’s Second Coming, and are credited with pioneering the Madchester movement, which combines acid house rhythms with guitar pop.
