Beatles Online?

02:01 PM, Tuesday 11/3/09 Add |   |

One online music service is selling songs by The Beatles. As to whether the tracks are licensed for downloading, well, that’s another matter.

You can stream, buy and download every song The Beatles ever released at BlueBeat.com.  What’s more, the site isn’t charging $1.29, 99 cents or even 89 cents. At BlueBeat tracks cost an average of 25 cents and albums are priced in the neighborhood of $4.25.

Considering EMI and Apple Corp. have yet to license any of the Fab Four tracks for downloading on iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody or Amazon MP3, the band’s sudden appearance on a lesser-known site such as BlueBeat seems almost preposterous.

But there it is, the entire Beatles catalog, including the recently issued remasters, with prices starting at $3.00 and ranging as high as $4.25.

How do they do it?

We honestly don’t know, but an Apple Corp. spokeswoman told Wired she didn’t think the site had permission to sell Beatles downloads. According to Wired, a similar inquiry put to EMI has yet to elicit a response.

However, the Wired article is dated Oct. 30, and the tracks are still up.

Which means you can buy and download The Beatles right now on BlueBeat.com. Whether you’ll be able download the tracks tomorrow remains to be seen.
